Imphal, November 10 2014:
Drawing attention of the concerned authorities, vice president of Chiang (Langmei) Students' Union, N.Wimonbou has strongly urged for up gradation of the Langmei High School, Tamei, the oldest high school in Tamenglong district, Manipur to Higher Secondary level at the earliest.
According to the vice president, the Langmei Government High School is nearly 100 years old and had celebrated its 92nd anniversary in the year 2011.The school has a students' strength of 300 and all the downtrodden students are admitted in the school.
"Even more than 150 students from Tamei area pass out HSLC examination annually from Tamei area and since most of the students are so poor, they cannot afford their studies outside and due to this reason, careers of many brilliant students are spoilt as no Higher Secondary schools are prevalent in the area", stated Wimonbou.
He also mentioned that even if many officials pay visits and make verbal promises to upgrade the high school, no concrete actions have been taken up so far.
Meanwhile, the matter has also been projected by the Langmei (Ritiang/Chiang) Village Authority urging for up gradation of the Langmei Government High School into the Higher Secondary level.
According to chairman of Langmei Chiang Village Authority, Lungpadbou, many endeavors and approaches have been already made by the villagers and leaders of the area for the school up gradation, but their attempts have been ignored.
A number of students from all the far flung remote villages of Tamei Sub-division come to Tamei for schooling every year.
Likewise, many students drop out from their studies after HSLC examination due to poverty to afford pre-University courses outside of the Sub-division as no Higher Secondary level schools are available.
Keeping into consideration the difficulties faced by the students and parents of the area, the Authority has urged the concerned Education department to look into the matter and upgrade the Langmei High school to the Secondary level.
