CM commits to uplift of education sector

Chief minister N Biren inaugurated the newly constructed building of the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Kasom Khullen, Kamjong district through video conferencing from the chief minister's secretariat on Monday.
The inauguration programme was organised by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT).
Speaking on the occasion, chief minister N Biren asserted that the state government has always been working for the welfare of its people.
He continued that bringing inclusive development would strengthen the relationship among people living in different corners of the state.
The CM stated that the government had introduced Go to Hills Mission to bridge the developmental gap across different parts of the state soon after the formation of his government in March 2017.After noting the differences in development, governance had been brought to people's doorsteps through the Go to Villages Mission.
As such, the required facilities had been brought through various welfare schemes.
Regarding the newly inaugurated DIET building, Biren informed that it has been constructed at a cost of around Rs 5.61 crore.
He continued that the government had been giving priority to the development of the education sector, although the state is facing financial constraints in development works.
Further, speaking on the STAR Education programme of the state government, he informed that much improvement could be seen among teachers who underwent training on teaching methods under the said programme.
The CM also informed that the government would come up with health facilities equipped with modernised machines in different hill districts.
Regarding the improvement of road conditions from Imphal to Kasom Khullen, he said that the travelling hour has been cut to around one and a half hours from the earlier seven to eight hours, sought the support of the public in carrying out development works.
Biren further maintained that the state government has been working to protect the indigenous people of the state and that the government is not against anyone or any community.
The CM expressed regret for not being able to personally attend the inauguration programme held in Kasom Khullen due to the current law and order situation in the state.
He asked the officials to use the building properly with proper maintenance, adding that he would look into matters regarding shortages in staff and other facilities in various DIETs across the state.
Education minister Th Basanta Kumar, while speaking on the occasion, informed that the establishment of one DIET each in every district of the state has been approved.
He continued that nine DIETS in different districts are functional as of now, and institute buildings of four DIETs had been constructed.
Appreciating the chief minister for giving much priority to the education sector, he sought the attention of the CM for filling up the vacant posts in DIETs in different districts and making them functional.
Phungyar MLA Leishiyo Keishing, Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam, Patsoi MLA Sapam Kunjakeswor, education (S) commissioner H Gyan Prakash and officials of SCERT, among others attended the programme.
DC Kamjong Rangnai Rang Peter, officials of the district administration also attended the programme from Kamjong district.
