Imphal, July 09 2014:
Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Students Union (IGNTUSU) has threatened to intensify its ongoing agitation of class boycotting by garnering the supports of other students' bodies in Manipur in the event of Vice Chancellor of the varsity Prof T.V.Kattonani failing to comeforth to resolve the ongoing impasse.
The IGNTUSU had received a letter on July 3 from the Vice Chancellor saying the authority of the University has not failed its duty from discharging.
"If this is the case then why the students who had cleared the Masters degree in 2012 are yet to get their mark-sheets," questioned IGNTUSU information secretary Lelen Vaiphei while addressing the media persons at Manipur Press Club here today.
Lelen Vaiphei demanded that the Vice Chancellor should meet all the demands put up by the students' body at the earliest or else the latter will resort to vigorous and stern agitation in collaboration with other students' organisations.
On June 21, the volunteers of IGNTUSU stormed into the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Regional Campus at Adimjati Complex in Imphal and destroyed the administrative blocks after breaking the keys to the rooms.
The tribal students under the aegis of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Students Union had also attacked the varsity in protest against the non implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the varsity authority and the students' body.
The tribal university was established in 2009 and it was decided to have its own campus at Makhan under Sadar Hills in Senapati district.
But the varsity has been functioning all these years from the Adimjati Complex since the campus at Makhan is yet to be developed.
According to the varsity tribal students' body, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between them and the varsity authority represented by Prof Tripathi on June 10 at 3:30 pm at Makhan.
In the MoU, it was agreed that the varsity authority should start issuing certificates to students which was not done since 2012, to provide needed library materials at the varsity, to have external tour of the students, to have a sports complex funded by the NEC in the varsity complex and other requirements of the students.
