Imphal, April 09 2022:
Chief minister N Biren on Saturday held a joint meet with elected representatives from different constituencies under Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) to discuss widening of roads in areas falling under the seven assembly constituencies.
The joint meet held at the CM secretariat in the morning was attended by Thangmeiband MLA Kh Joykisan, Yaiskul MLA and Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker Th Satyabrata, Keishamthong MLA Sapam Nishikant, Wangkhei MLA Th Arunkumar and Uripok MLA Kh Raghumani.
The joint meet discussed in depth about the need to widen roads under IMC jurisdiction in view of outdated roads which are not in commensurate with the increasing population and vehicles.
The meet also discussed thoroughly about poor drainage system, inundation and unhygienic condition due to random disposal of garbage in IMC area.
The meet also noted that construction of dwelling houses close to the roadways is the primary reason for narrowing of roads/by-lanes under IMC and it often prevents movement of fire brigade during the time of fire incidents.
Throwing of garbage into the drain and along river banks and its effect was also discussed during the meet and CM Biren appealed to MLAs to extend support to the efforts being made by the government to solve these problems.
On the other hand, Saturday's meet also discussed about holding IMC election in June this year.
