Imphal, April 09 2013:
Irom Chanu Sharmila, who has been on fast for the last 12 years demanding repeal of AFSPA, was produced before the Imphal West CJM First Class Y Rother, who is also in charge of JMIC Imphal East, today.
Sharmila was produced before the Court at around 11:30 am today.
Talking to media persons after her appearance before the Court, Sharmila said that Manipur is a place where criminals never got any punishment for their criminal deeds.
It is because of this that the rate of crimes against women has increased.
Mentioning the case of Ningombam Satyabhama, who was found mercilessly killed and abandoned at Wangkhei Loumanbi Loukon under Irilbung Police Station on April 5, Sharmila said that the incident was indeed unfortunate and shocking.
All those involved in the killing should be given severe punishment by the law court.
Only then, the rate of crimes against women in Manipur could be reduced to a considerable level, Sharmila said.
She also pointed out that those security personnel involved in fake encounter killings are being imprisoned for life in other part of the country.
However, in Manipur, it is totally different.
