Imphal, August 08 2023:
Former MLA RK Anand has urged the State Government to enforce the same law in the hills and the valley.
He said the law should be enforced in the hills as it is being enforced in the valley.
At Manipur Press Club, Imphal, RK Anand said considering the present situation it is not clear whether Article 355 [under which Centre takes control of security from State] is in place or not in Manipur.
When asked about this, the Government also did not give an answer.
However, in an order of the Manipur Human Rights Commission it was found mentioned that the Article 355 has not been enforced in the State, he said.
If the Commission's order is true then why is the State Government not able to enforce the law effectively.
Why is the Government not evicting/driving away those occupying Torbung Bangla? asked RK Anand.
After maintaining silence for about 76 days, the Prime Minister spoke about a viral video which showed two women parading nude.
The Prime Minister, however, did not speak on the overall crisis.
Instead of speaking outside the Parliament, he should have spoken about it inside the Parliament, said RK Anand.
"The PM's action had shown the Meiteis as a community that disregards women.
For this, he should tender an apology to the people of Manipur in the Parliament," said RK Anand.
He said the Indian Govt should stop implementing divisive policy and suspend the SoO signed with the Kuki militant groups.
Unless divisive policies are shunned and SoO is abrogated, violence may continue and killing won't stop, he said.
