Saw mills owners issue SOS

Imphal, January 08 2014: The Ukhrul District Saw Mills Owner Association has submitted a memorandum to Chief Secretary of the State on January 6 demanding protection of licensed Saw Mills and control illegal Saw Mills in respect of Ukhrul district under Factory Act, 1948 .

In the memorandum, the Association pointed out that the Divisional Forest Officer, Eastern Forest Division, Government of Manipur had issued an order on July 18, 2012 for inspection of Saw Mills running in Ukhrul district.

However, instead of controlling, the number of illegal Saw Mills is increasing.

The memorandum further stated that due to the increasing number of illegal Saw Mills, the legal Saw Mills owners in the district could not compete with the former in production process as they are free from any taxes or duty charges.

The Association urged the concerned authority to initiate immediate action on the matter in order to check and balance the operation of Saw Mills in Ukhrul district.
