Manipur tribals protest outside Manipur Bhawan

Imphal, October 07 2015: Some persons representing tribes of Manipur on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration against the Government of Manipur on learning that Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam was visiting the National Capital in connection with some meetings with central Government officials.

The protesters converged in front of Manipur Bhawan and after some time they were picked up by Delhi police personnel who took them to the parliament street police station, said sources.

It was also reported that during the protest, Gaikhangam was not present in the Bhawan.

The protest in the National Capital is likely to continue till Gaikhangam leaves as the representatives of tribal communities felt that he failed to raise any objections when the three Bills were passed by the Manipur Assembly, said sources.

Earlier, there were similar protest in front of Manipur Bhavan by representatives of various tribal organisations in Delhi registering their anger over the killing of nine persons in Churachandpur District after the passing of the three Bills by the Assembly.
