Imphal, April 07 2015 : Accusing the Additional SP (Kangpokpi), Md Zakiruddin of assaulting two student leaders besides spewing offensive words against tribal students, the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Students' Union (IGNTUSU-RCM) has demanded his immediate removal.

Speaking to reporters today at Manipur Press Club, leaders of IGNTUSU-RCM said that a group of IGNTU-RCM students went to the university's main campus located at Makhan as part of the students' union ongoing agitation under the banner, 'Save IGNTU-RCM' today.

Addl SP (Kangpokpi), Md Zakiruddin came there in civil dress and assaulted the finance secretary and information secretary of IGNTUSU-RCM, the student leaders alleged.

The police officer also made insulting remarks against the whole tribal student community and said 'What can the tribal students do?, Give me the memo, I will solve everything' .

Holding the VC of the university Prof TV Kattimani responsible for the incident, the student leaders also strongly demanded the removal of the VC.

The students have been on strike since April 1 on various demands including appointment of a regular Director and provision of adequate infrastructure.

The student leaders said the union will boycott classes and all activities in the campus and cease all first-phase construction works at Makhan until the demands are met.
