Unity calls mark NPF's Advent Christmas

The Naga People's Front (NPF), Manipur State Unit, celebrated Advent Christmas on Friday at General Thangal Ecological Park, Mayangkhang.
The event was attended by Front's office bearers, active party workers, unit and division members, as well as present and former MLAs and ex-ADC members.
In his welcome address, NPF Manipur advisor Solomon Veino expressed hope that the celebration of Advent, marking the four Sundays leading to Christmas, would bring blessings to the party.
He emphasised the spiritual significance of Advent as a time for prayer, self-reflection and renewing one's commitment to God, urging everyone to foster a spirit of forgiveness and reconciliation to achieve peace through Christmas.
MLA Leishiyo Keishing conveyed his joy in being part of the NPF, highlighting the party's practice of beginning and concluding every programme with prayers.
He expressed gratitude to political thinkers, social leaders and senior figures for their role in establishing the NPF in Manipur, comparing its importance to the indispensable value of salt in daily life.
Meanwhile, Water Resources minister and NPF president, Awangbow Newmai, described Advent Christmas as an annual tradition of the party, reflecting its commitment to fostering unity and peace.
He noted that while the Naga people have historically been peace-loving, divisions and discord have at times hindered their progress.
He stressed the need for unity, warning that disunity not only harms individuals but also jeopardises the well-being of the entire Naga community.
Awangbow lauded the contributions of the forefathers and encouraged current generations to build a legacy that benefits future generations.
Rev Phungmi Mawon, pastor Mayangkhang Baptist Church, delivered the Christmas message under the theme "Celebrating Christmas with Peace of Mind" .
He described Advent as a period of preparation for Christmas and called attention to the world's pressing need for peace amidst ongoing conflicts.
Rev Mawon underscored that true peace can only be achieved through God's presence.
Representatives from the United Naga Council and the All Naga Students' Association, Manipur, also extended their greetings.
The event concluded with a musical evening featuring performances by GMP, a band from Tamenglong, and Lost and Found of Senapati.
