DESAM warns against politicising MU issue

Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has condemned the apparent attempt by some possible Government agents to politicise the ongoing agitation by MUSU, MUTA and MUSA as well as various CSOs, student organisations and local clubs etc.
It has also claimed that if the people responsible for organising today's rally/demonstration as well as those taking part in 4he said demonstration, were honest and were free of any political motivation, today's unfortunate event at Manipur University could have been avoided.
A press release issued by the secretary publicity and propaganda of DESAM today claimed that the rally organised today supposedly to save Manipur University, seems to be targeted towards MUSU, MUTA and MUSA.
It alleged that in the past, every party or organisation which came in support of the MU issue have been warmly embraced by the stakeholders (MUSU, MUTA and MUSA) but the unfortunate incident at the university today shows that the stakeholders were suspicious about the demonstration.
DESAM added that the people will never forget that there are some unseen forces behind the demonstrations organised in various parts of the State and the said demonstrations were organised to tarnish the protest for the survival of Manipur University.
The student body, further asked why the rally/demonstration headed towards MU if it was organised for bringing an amicable solution to the issue, instead of going towards the CM or the Governor's office etc.
Will bloodshed and violence bring a positive solution to the issue and does the CM and the Governor have their office at MU, DESAM questioned.
The association further raised question about how the large number of people were allowed to approach MU although the police destroyed the shed used by the stakeholders for organising relay hunger strike claiming CrPC 144 is in effect in Imphal West.
DESAM also conveyed that it was wrong on the part of Manipur police, and the State Government as a whole, to resort to firing tear gas shells, rubber bullets etc towards the volunteers of MUSU, MUTA and MUSA.
It further questioned the relation between removal of engineering cell from the university and the university impasse.
It also asked how the rally started from the DC complex and who gave the approval.
DESAM further urged all the parents as well as the supposed parents of college and university students who took part in the rally today to think which is better, either the complete ruin of the only Central university in the State or the loss of a single academic year of the students.
Looking after all that transpired today, DESAM alleged today's protest rally/demonstration was organised possibly by Government agents or people who are getting some benefits from the Government.
Urging all those concerned not to act against the stakeholders who are trying to save Manipur University, DESAM demanded the Government to refrain from sending out agents to misguide the protest and warned that if the Government fails to heed the warning, there is no telling if the protest might shift its direction against the Government instead.
