30 villages in Bishnupur district declared 'Open Defecation Free'

Bishnupur, February 06 2018:
Public Health Engineering Department, Government of Manipur today declared 30 villages in Bishnupur district as open defecation free villages.
A felicitation ceremony for the open defecation free (ODF) villages was organised today at the conference hall of the DC office, Mini Secretariat, Bishnupur district.
Certificates of open defecation free village were given to 24 ZP Pradhans representing the 30 villages.
Bishnupur district DC Pawan Yadav, Executive Engineer of Bishnupur PHE Division L Gokulchandra Singh, ADM Bishnupur Brojendro Ningthoujam, Thinungei Phubala Zilla Parishad member Oinam Joychandra Singh, Leimram ZP member Sadananda and SDO Bishnupur Lalita attended the certificate awarding ceremony as presidium members.

Deputy Commissioner of Bishnupur Pawan Yadav who attended the event as chief guest said that the certificates awarded to the villages have a validity of only 6 months.
Gram Panchayats in the villages have immense responsibilities towards welfare of the people and cleanliness of the villages, he said.
Stating that the certificates have expiry dates, he appealed the local bodies, people and Gram Panchayats to continue their efforts to make their villages open defecation free and clean.
Speaking at the event, Executive Engineer PHE D L Gokulchandra stated that an additional 18 villages will be declared open defecation free villages by March 31 .
He further appealed all the people in the district to help achieved the Clean India Mission by October 2019 .
PM Modi on October 2, 2014 launched the Swachh Bharat Mission throughout length and breadth of the country as a national movement.
The PM had said that a clean India would be the best tribute India could pay to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150 birth anniversary in 2019 .
