World Soil Day observed in Chandel

Thoubal, December 05 2024: As in other parts of the world, World Soil Day 2024 was observed by Chandel Forest Division at Koinonia Training School, Chandel Christian with an awareness programme on Thursday with Chandel divisional forest officer (DFO) Dr N Munal Meitei as chief guest and School head master TS Bahadhur as president.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Munal highlighted the major role played by soil including producing 95 percent of food, absorbing pollutants and carbon dioxide from air, inducing 60 per cent of worldwide rain fall that flow into river, lake/pond, etc.

"To conserve this invaluable resource, one must plant trees, carry out crop rotation and protect the forest," he remarked.

The observance was participated by around 750 students.
