Imphal, December 05 2021:
United Committee Manipur (UCM) has said that it will mount pressure on the relevant authorities after producing a 'white paper' on the Indo-Myanmar border issue/dispute in Manipur sector.
UCM president Joychandra Konthoujam disclosed this during a discussion on the theme 'Formation of Road Map and Solution of Indo-Myanmar Border Issue' organised by the committee at JN Dance Academy auditorium here on Sunday.
According to Joychandra, Union external affairs minister of state RK Ranjan had made a commitment few months back to UCM that the disputed Border Pillars (BP) in Manipur sector of Indo-Myanmar border would be verified within the month of October this year but no positive action is forthcoming till date.
UCM suspects that there is hidden agenda of the Government of India on Border Pillar issue and Union external affairs minister of state RK Ranjan should clarify about the matter to the people of Manipur.
If there happens to be no hidden agenda, then RK Ranjan's assurance should be translated into action before the upcoming state assembly election.
Manipur government should also convene a cabinet meeting on the matter and mount pressure on the Prime Minister, Union home minister and external affairs minister, Joychandra said, adding that Manipur Legislative Assembly should convene a special session and take a decision on safeguarding territory of the state in case the Government of India sidelines the BP dispute.
The discussion moderated by professor N Joykumar of history department, Manipur University later formed a committee named 'Committee on Fact Finding of Indo-Myanmar Border Issue' with UCM president Joychandra Konthoujam as convener and general secretary Ng Deba Meitei as co-convener.
Professor N Joykumar, retired IAS A Tombikanta, N Bobby of Centre for Myanmar Studies, Dr Manichandra of Geotactic & Geographical Information System, UCM consultants L Dadu, H Ibotombi Khuman and Y Dilipkumar were also appointed as members of the committee.
Senior advocate Irom Lalit, writer & publisher Hareshwar Goswami and advocate Kh Gojendra were also appointed as consultants of the Fact-Finding Committee.
