RBI issue advisory on fraudsters

In view of the widespread trend of duping people through offers of cheap funds in the form of lottery prize money, through letters, e-mails, SMS etc from fraudsters, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued an advisory note.
Some of these fraudulent communications are being sent on fake letterheads of Reserve Bank of India signed by its top executives/ senior officials.
The RBI advise include refraining from remitting or depositing any amount in response to offers of easy money through lottery, prizes etc received mainly through SMS.
It also informed that the RBI does not maintain any account in the names of individuals/companies/trusts etc to hodl fund for disbursal and that the RBI would never ask people to deposit money in any account.
The RBI also warned that making any type of remittance towards participation in schemes of lotteries offers from unknown entities abroad or their agents in India is illegal.
The advisory note asked the people to approach the cyber crime branch of the local police in case of receipt of any such offer.
