Complete ban on single use plastic from July 1

Manipur Pollution Control Board (MPCB) chairman L Radhakishore has announced that there will be complete ban on single use plastic from July 1 in the state.
He made the announcement while speaking during the World Environment Day observance organised jointly by Manipur Pollution Control Board (MPCB) and Nature Club Haoreibi at the MPCB office premises located within DC Office Complex, Lamphelpat, here on Sunday.
A tree plantation programme was also conducted inside the campus as part of the event.
Nature Club Haoreibi president Y Jiten and MPCB chairman L Radhak-ishore attended the function as chief guest and president respectively while MPCB senior environmental engineer Kh Premkanta, law officer Th Jitenkumar and scientist C Kh Tomba were present as guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Radhakishore emphasised on effective measures to lessen the impact from climate change and need for a joint effort to conserve nature.
He also expressed concern over the increasing rate of plastic pollution, saying it has become a major issue.
Informing that the government will ban single use plastic from July 1, the chairman said that strict legal actions will be initiated against violators.
To mark World Environment Day, personnel of 4 Assam Rifles, F Company posted at Chinga in association with volunteers of Singjamei Chin gamathak Nupi Thougal Lup and CRYDA Singjamei Chingamathak organised a tree plantation programme at Chinga hillock on Sunday.
Shija Academy of Health Sciences joined hands with Langol Youth Development Club in observing World Environment Day at Langol Lainingthou Lairembi campus on Sunday by planting tree saplings.
Punshikhul Development Association also observed the day by planting saplings of different fruit bearing trees including stink bean.
