Empowerment of women necessary for enhancing economy: MLA Bijoy

The 5th Foundation Day of Social Economic Empowerment Project was celebrated at GM Hall here today with Dr Ng Bijoy, MLA Khurai Constituency who is also the Chairman of Manipur Pollution Control Board attending as the Chief Guest.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Bijoy said that economy of the State has to be enhanced at first for bringing development in the society and asserted that women should be empowered as they have been playing pivotal role in strengthening economy apart from taking active participation in social issues.
He stated that top priority should be given to education sector keeping in view of the present trend of knowledge based society and stressed on the need for exploring possible steps like establishment of entrepreneurship which could generate employment for jobless people of the State.
Wangkhemcha Shyamjai, president of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) who was also present at the occasion as one of the Guest of Honors said that creation of self help groups by women in different parts of the State is commendable as this will facilitate their livelihood by providing them with suitable works.
Stating that many widow are compelled to earn money after the demise of their husbands and maintain their family including education of their children which are not easy things to do, he underlined on the need for taking up measures to uplift their living condition.
Along with releasing a bulletin by the Chief Guest, simple gifts were presented to several members of self help groups during the programme.
Today's function was also attended by L Bihari, former Chairman of Nagaland Rural Bank as President; Th Mano, Joint Registrar of Cooperative Department and Robita Sorokhaibam, Associate Professor, Department of Commerce, Manipur University as Guests of Honor.
