Observing that people's cooperation is vital for effective implementation of "Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao" (Save girl child, educate girl child) campaign, RD&PR Minister Th Biswajit has called for a collective effort of the people and the Government to ensure success of the campaign in the State.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the State level felicitation and recognition programme of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao which was organized by BJP Manipur Pradesh at Trade & Expo Centre, Lamboi Khongnangkhong, Imphal West today.
Reminding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the campaign in 2015, he informed that the main objective of the campaign is to generate awareness among the masses about gender equality and discrimination against women and sex determination of unborn child, among others.
He went on to inform that the campaign aims to improve the efficiency of welfare services intended for girls in the country while pointing out that India stood at the 41st position in the sex ratio in Asia as per a report.
Stating that Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao programme has been enhanced with the inclusion of additional number of welfare schemes for the girl child, Biswajit conveyed that the GoI has introduced Sukanya Samriddhi Yojna, a scheme which encourages parents to save fund for the education and future expenses for their daughter.
He then appealed to all the parents to deposit a small sum under the scheme in consideration of the future needs of their daughters.
The Government has also provided free gas connections to enormous number of BPL families in view of the suffering of numerous women in India as a result of harmful smokes released from burning of charcoal, cow dung and fire woods while cooking.
Unlike the past Governments, the NDA Government recognizes North East region and has taken up many significant initiatives for the region, he said.
Nomination of famous boxer, Mary Kom as Rajya Sabha Member and keeping the National Sports University at Imphal are some of the examples for the Govt's contribution.
Delivering his presidential speech at the function, Rajya Sabha MP K Bhabananda Singh emphasized on the need to uplift the condition of women, to make India prosperous.
He stated that the vision of Narendra Modi is to make a new India by bringing great transformations in the country and remarked that the programmes and policies projected by the Prime Minister have far sighted scopes.
Social Welfare Minister Nemcha Kipgen who attended as the guest of honour opined that changing the outlook of parents towards their girl child needs to be changed first.
She continued to observe that parents have to be committed to their responsibilities of looking after their daughters in the effort to protect and nurture them, apart from giving proper education and lifestyle.
Saying that women are at par with men and even excel men in various fields, she asked all to recognize the values of women in the society and respect them and their profession as well.
The function was also attended by MAHUD Minister Th Shyamkumar Singh, BJP's Zonal/NE States (Organization) general secretary Ajay Jamwal, National Convenor BBBP Dr Rajendra Fadke, Kakching A/C MLA Y Surchandra and Wangoi A/C MLA O Lukhoi as guests of honour.
Felicitation of meritorious girl children and individuals who worked to curtail crimes against women also marked the main event of the function.
