'Way Forward' declared on Remembrance Day

Kangpokpi, February 03 2024: Kuki-Zo people in Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi district made a five-point 'Way Forward' declaration during the 9th Remembrance Day after a consultation meeting held at Kangpokpi town on Saturday.

Thousands of Kuki-Zo people from across Kangpokpi participated in the Public Consultation Meet cum 9th Remembrance Day observance held under the aegis of Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Sadar Hills.

Apart from prominent Kuki-Zo leaders and civil society organisations, Kuki-Zo MLAs, ex-MLAs, ex-member of district council, Sadar Hills Chiefs' Association (SAHILCA), the apex body of Kuki chiefs, Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills, Tribe Inpi, church leaders, intellectuals, senior citizens, youth clubs, women leaders and defence committees took part in the event.

Various important issues including the alleged breaching of Buffer Zones' by the Meetei community from the valley, 'war declaration upon the Kuki-Zo people', Free Movement Regime (FMR) and 'Separate Administration' movement, etc., were deliberated at length during the consultation meeting.

SAHILCA declared N Biren Singh as chief minister of Meetei and no longer of the entire Manipur.

Conveying the five-point 'Way Forward' declaration, CoTU spokesperson Kaiminlen Sitlhou said that considering the unabated attacks on Kuki-Zo by Meetei community from the valley by crossing the buffer zones, the meeting unanimously declared for befitting response against any aggression in Kuki-Zo dominated areas.

Kaiminlen also mentioned that the public consultation meeting unanimously resolved to object border fencing in areas covered by the FMR along the Manipur-Myanmar border belt.

He further stressed that Kuki-Zo across Kangpokpi unanimously declared to sustain the demand for 'Separate Administration', and endorse UPF and KNO political negotiations with the centre.

Meanwhile, movement of heavy vehicles were restricted along the highway during the public consultation meeting cum 9th Remembrance Day observance, while all shops and educational institutions remained closed for the day.
