Docu-film on Zeliangrong expedition released

Imphal, January 03 2014 : A documentary film entitled, "Home-coming to Makuilongdi" was released on the eve of New Year in Imphal.

The film is based on Zeliangrong Ancestral Land Expedition 2012 by the Zeliangrong Citizens Forum (ZCF) .

Zeliangrong Ancestral Land Expedition 2012 took 17 days October 6 and concluded on October 22.It started from Peren town of Nagaland which culminated into a grand finale at Makuilongdi.

"Makuilongdi is the common ancestral village from where the people of Zeliangrong emigrated to south, north, east and west of northeast region of India," said the ZCF.

It then said they are now seeking to come together again to rise as a strong family and a people to be reckoned with.

"The expedition was carried out to focus on understanding the ground reality of Zeliangrong people living in Assam, Manipur and Nagaland and also to inculcate the spirit of fraternity," it added.

The documentary film showcases popular landmarks in Zeliangrong history, such as Ramting Kabin - the cave from which Zeliangrong people are believed to have sheltered, Guangphungning - the oldest surviving Zeliangrong village and Makuilongdi - the cradle of Zeliangrong people from where the great exodus took place.

Rani Gaidinliu's cave and AZ Phizo's cave in Puilwa, Nagaland; Bhubon Cave, Binnakandi, Assam are landmark pilgrimage sites frequented by the legendary figures like Gairiamang and Haipou Jadonang are few of the notable places where visited by the Ancestral Expedition team and thus, widely features in the documentary film.

The gathering crowd on the occasion paid homage to the departed souls of R.Tale, a towering Zeliangrong leader and freedom fighter; and Heuzieding Poirang, Head Gaon Bura of Puilwo village and Khiusingliu Golmei whose advice to the expedition team and songs were featured in the film.

The documentary film was released by Dinganglung Gangmei, MCS, ADM, Ukhrul, Manipur.

The releasing function was attended by many Zeliangrong leaders including Dr M Gairiangmei Maringmei, general secretary, Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland), Poudinlung Riamei, general secretary, Zeliangrong Baudi (Manipur), Chingjokpou Phaomei, Zeliangrong Baudi, Imphal Zone, John Tingenlung, president, All Zeliangrong Students' Union (AMN), Kadijanbou Pamei, Chairman ZSUM, Sangru Gangmei, Secretary ZSUM, Kabichung , Khullakpu, Namdunlong Village, Imphal, Akhuan Riamei, Deputy Inspector, Department of Education, Tamenglong, Manipur, Pungsandi Dangmei, Deputy Commandant, CRPF (Lamphel, Imphal) .
