World Hepatitis Day observed

As observed across the globe, "World Hepatitis Day" was observed today at District Hospital Thoubal to raise awareness on hepatitis.
The observation was organised by the District Health Society Thoubal under the theme "It's Time For Action".
Ahanthem Subhash Singh IAS, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of District Health Society Thoubal; Dr Y Nokul Singh, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Thoubal and Dr W Ruhinikumar Singh, Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Thoubal graced the observance as the presidium members.
Speaking as the chief guest, the DC Thoubal called for concerted efforts to strive for a Hepatitis free Thoubal district in line with the World Health Organization (WHO) aim to eliminate Hepatitis globally by 2030.With regards to Thoubal district, the DC informed that the district recorded 86 Hepatitis-B positive cases out of which 19 are pregnant women during the period from April 2023 till May 2024.Furthermore, 499 Hepatitis-C positive cases were also recorded, he added.
Highlighting the importance of conducting regular testing of Hepatitis for timely treatment, the DC maintained that mass testing should be conducted in the district and urged all to make dedicated efforts to achieve the goal of a Hepatitis free world.
District Nodal Officer, NVHCP, DHS Thoubal Dr RK Kamala delivered the keynote address of the programme while Dr Y Bijendra Singh, District AIDS Control Officer spoke in length on Hepatitis.
As a part of the observance, the dignitaries presented simple gifts to Hepatitis-B patients and those who have recovered from Hepatitis-C .
Free testing for Hepatitis was also done today.
