NIA begins probe

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has started investigation into the missing case of 56 small arms from the arms cote of 2nd Manipur Rifles.
As directed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, NIA Guwahati submitted an FIR to the Special Judge, NIA Manipur today in connection with the missing arms case, and the Court accepted the FIR.
The FIR mentions names of 2nd MR Havildar NP Damodaran (59) s/o late Podiyan from Ommllur village, Pathanam district, Kerala and Rifleman Narayan Chhetry (44) s/o late Man Bahadur Chhetry from Bhimpokhara Ward No 6, Nepal, sources informed.
After a report was filed by the Commandant of 2nd MR at Imphal police station saying that 56 arms had gone missing, NP Damodaran and Narayan Chhetry were arrested on March 30 this year and due investigation was launched.
Subsequently, five other individuals were also pulled up and all seven of them were sent to judicial custody on April 10 .
