Imphal, June 02 2011:
A cabinet meeting held today under the chair of the Chief Minister discussed the Lokpal Bill which the Centre is preparing to table in the Parliament for enforcing it as an Act to check corruption.
SPF spokesman, minister N Biren said the cabinet discussed the proposed bill after the Centre asked the state government to spell out the choice of the state government whether the Manipur government prefers Lokayukta or Jan Lokpal.
The cabinet had opted to have a separate legislation of its own to deal with corruption in the state and the choice was the Lokayukta, Biren said adding that the decision of the government will be intimated to the centre at the earliest.
The long pending demand of the college teachers regarding the payment of UGC pay scales was also discussed in the cabinet and it was decided to implement the same to the college teachers, he informed.
The implementation of revised UGC pay scales to the college teachers is a long pending demand of the Federation of College Teachers' Association,
Manipur (FECTAM).
The adoption of the pay scale will be effective from November 2010 as per the cabinet decision but the amount to be received from November, 2010 to May 2011 would be deposited to the GPF fund of the teachers.
Further, the cabinet decided to constitute a committee to look into the pay anomalies in various departments.
The Finance Commissioner would be the chairman of the committee and the report of the committee will be submitted to the government within four months.
