Imphal, April 02 2013:
Chingai Assembly Constituency MLA MK Preshow Shimray today provided clothes and slippers to 23 children who were recently rescued from a children home in Jaipur, Rajasthan and currently being put up at the Children Organisational Home, Takyelpat.
The items donated this evening at the Takyelpat facility was a part of interim assistance from the MLA's side.
Representatives of the Western Tangkhul Students' Union were also present at the occasion.
Interacting with the children, MLA Shimray observed that the disturbing trend of child trafficking involving Manipuri children is a fallout of protracted problem of insurgency.
With insurgency severely crippling the State's economy, parents are forced to send their wards outside Manipur with the hope that they will receive better educational facilities in other States, said the MLA who also drew the Government of Manipur's attention to ensure that children of the State enjoy requisite educational amenities.
He also affirmed that intensive as well as extensive awareness campaigns would be carried out in the interior and far-flung hill area villages on educational development programmes being initiated/implemented by the Government under the Right to Education Act.
