Imphal, December 01, 2012:
The process for design finalization on upgrading Sanjenthong over Imphal River into a 'four lane bridge' is almost finished and the Government of Manipur is preparing to submit the estimated cost for construction of the bridge and its Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the Central Govt in early part of 2013. The existing Sanjenthong Bridge over Imphal River, now unsuitable for the increasing traffic volume in Imphal city, was built by PWD in early part of 1970s, a top official of the department said while talking to Newmai News Network Saturday.
The Govt of Manipur had earlier in 2010 submitted the 'project profile' of the proposed four lane bridge to be constructed at Sanjenthong to DoNER Ministry, the PWD official, who did not want to disclose his name, said.
He said the estimated cost of the project was earlier fixed at Rs 10 crore only and in tandem the DoNER Ministry had approved the proposal.
At the same time, the Ministry had also asked the State Govt to duly submit a proper DPR that includes the design and estimated cost, he said.
Acting on the green signal given by the ministry, hectic preparation of the DPR as well as the design finalization of the bridge is on by the state Government, the official disclosed.
Now, the process on design finalization being worked out along with consultants from outside is almost finished, he added while informing that the State Government is preparing to submit the DPR in early part of 2013 to the DoNER Ministry.
The total length of the proposed four lane bridge will be 61-metre with breadth of 15 metre.
The State Govt has also newly fixed the estimated cost on the upgradation of the bridge at Rs 35 crore which was earlier fixed at Rs 10 crore.
The construction of the bridge will be taken up under the funding of NLCPR, the official added.
