Imphal, October 01 2019:
The Kangleipak Students' Association has questioned the wisdom and agenda of clubbing together the birth anniversary of Jananeta Hijam Irabot and Mahatma Gandhi.
Stating that such a move can confuse the upcoming generations as the two personalities lived in totally different spheres, the secretary of the youth affairs and sports of the student body today said that it makes no sense to club the two birth anniversaries, as witnessed at Praja High School, Lamsang where the birth anniversaries of the two personalities were celebrated together from September 26 to October 2 putting their photos side by side.
Speaking to the media, the student leader said that the Education Minister, the Director of School Education and the ZEO concerned owe an explanation to the people.
On the other hand, the Kangleipak Kanba Lup has demanded the Dalit Sahitya Academy to explain why they have placed a photo of Dr Ambedkar alongside that of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot on the latter's 123rd birth anniversary in an event that was organised yesterday.
In a statement, KKL said that Dr Ambedkar might have been a great leader in many aspects but he had nothing to do with Lamyanba Hijam Irabot's birth anniversary and this very act of Dalit Sahitya Academy has distorted history.
Was it an attempt to distort the history of Kangleipak by including a portrait of Dr Ambedkar during the 123rd birth anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot, it asked.
Kangleipak Kanba Lup demanded the said academy to clarify the matter before the public at the earliest and in case the academy does not heed this then appropriate action against the Dalit Sahitya Academy and those who were involved will be taken up.
