Clarification over attack on Pradhan demanded

Imphal, September 01 2014: A sit-in-protest staged jointly by Pradhans and Zilla Parishad Members at Panchayat Bhavan, Porompat here today in condemnation of the attack on Pradhan of Sawombung Gram Panchayat Sandham Ibomcha (44), who was shot at on his cheek by unidentified persons after calling him out from his residence on August 30 around 7.30 pm, has demanded the concerned organization to clarify before the public on why the attack was carried out at the earliest.

Speaking to newspersons on sidelines of the protest, Nongmeikapam Bimota, Pradhan of Pukhao Gram Panchayat termed the attack on S Ibomcha as an attack on all Pradhans and Zilla Parishad Members in the State and maintained that Pradhans have been working tirelessly for betterment of villagers with small fund from the government.

She stated that the attack came at a time when Pradhans are facing hindrances in discharging their works towards bringing development in villages and pointed out that even if Ibomcha had committed any wrongdoing, he should have been given a chance to clarify himself.

Lamenting that the government has not provided any kind of assistance to the injured Ibomcha who is undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity so far, Bimota demanded the concerned organization to come up with a clarification publicly on why the Pradhan was attacked at the earliest, failing which Pradhans and Zilla Parishad Members will resort to a series of intense agitations.
