Imphal, August 31 2015:
To restore normal life and bring peace in Moreh, the 18th August Incident Relief Committee, Imphal on Monday has demanded Rs 6 crore as a relief package for the victims of the recent Moreh violence.
During a press meet held at Manipuri Press Club here, convener of the committee Seram Niken said that the civil administration and business activities have totally failed in the border town due to the August 18 violent incident.
To restore administration and other activities, State Government should sanction Rs 6 crore as a relief package for the victims and proper law should also be enforced in the town so that police personnel can resume their normal duties, demanded Niken.
Members of the committee had visited and inspected Moreh town on Sunday and handed over an amount of Rs 1.5 lakh to the vice chairman of Meetei Moreh Council (MMC) and members of ACODOM Moreh, LC Minabanta and K Chingkham as monetary aid for the Moreh violent victims.
Anybody who wishes to help the victims can visit Young Physique Union at Lalambung, added Niken.
Niken also said that the Moreh incident was unfortunate as houses, hotels and shops owned by Meetei communities only were burnt down and looted while many vehicles were vandalized.
Such violent acts can be committed only by a few numbers of Kuki refugees, alleged Niken.
He urged all communities, which are opposing the implementation of an inner line permit system, to unite together and extend support to the ongoing mass movement.
Niken recalled the role of the Meetei community in restoring peace during the Naga-Kuki clashes in the state and said that the demand of ILPS meant for all the communities since it will protect the indigenous communities of Manipur.
