Seminar on developmental deficit in rural areas held

A One-day training cum seminar on lack of development in rural areas was held at PST Park, Purul Atongba Village, Senapati on Saturday.
The programme was organized by Society for Upliftment of Rural Enterprise (SURE) and sponsored by Tribal Research Institute, Chingmeirong, Imphal.
The President of SURE, in his keynote address said that the program will enhance the general public on the related issue to the development of the rural areas.
.NBipin Singh, E.E., PHED, Senapati Division spoke as a resource person of the program on the importance of Sanitation, to keep the surroundings clean and healthy, especially by providing a sewage system and a clean water supply.
The resource person stressed on the need to maintain a proper sanitation facilities without which, a person can easily falls sick due to diarrhea, dysentery, malaria, typhoid.
With the failure of the Central Rural Sanitation Program to implement in rural areas due to lack of information, education and communication, the GOM has taken up Total Sanitation Campaign in rural areas to construct a proper sanitary latrine at an estimated amount of Rs.6,000/-, (Rs.5, 100/- sanctioned from Central Govt.and State Govt.and with Rs.900/- from self) by every household, irrespective of BPL/APL families to maintain a clean atmosphere.
The resource person also pointed out on the need for management of solid waste, to maintain garbage, home/food sanitation and community sanitation to live in an ecologically safe area.
Resource person, H.Ibohal Chothe, E.E., PWD, Senapati Division spoke on the development of construction of roads which needs the availability of fund, law and order and dishonest corruption.
9% out of 10 are covered by hill in rural areas where, road is the only means of transportation in those areas.
One of the main reasons why roads in the hill could not improve is due to the concerned authority/ politicians who do not give much importance in road as they travel by air, he added.

Scientist Officer, Directorate of Environment, GOM, who spoke as a resource person, said scientists today are very much worried if water, air or soil is polluted anywhere on earth.
He also urged the public to start from the locality to preserve forest for a cleaner environment.
Fr.Thaikho Simon, Principal, Rosary High School, Purul spoke on the importance of Education, which opens the door to knowledge.
Education alone can make us gain the knowledge of differentiating between different aspects of work, life and curriculum, he said.
An official from Tribal Research Institute, Imphal, explained that it has only 18 staffs including 6 regular staffs to run the office with conducting seminars, training and workshops in the hill areas.
The officer also assured to provide any possible help for any kind of developmental activities in a region.
