Ukhrul, August 31 2013 :
The road construction under PMGSY from Kamjong BRTF road to Maku village could not take off due to differing opinions between the locals and work agency.
In a press conference on Saturday, Maku village authorities demanded for conducting another survey for the PMGSY road (package No.948) while alleging that the concerned department has ordered the construction without any consultation with the locals.
The village authorities said the survey for the PMGSY work was last undertaken by the department officials at their own discretion in 2010 .
On August 28 last, the Maku public resolved not to allow the 10-km road construction till the approval of the village authorities is accorded to the work agency.
Informing that the Maku village had adopted a public resolution on March 15 for undertaking the PMGSY road via a new alignment, the village authorities alleged the work agency is bent on pushing through the work along the old route.
Maku villagers have also raised some pertinent questions against the department.
They asked, ''Isn't the road for Maku villagers? Why did the department concerned failed to consult with the locals?'' .
Mentioning that the guidelines of PMGSY (10.3 clause) entail the village with a right to make adjustment with road alignment, the Maku authorities asked the relevant department to look into the matter at the earliest.
Unless the difference is resolved between the two parties, the locals would oppose the construction undertaken by the agency at their own will, the village authorities warned.
The 10-km new road from Kamjong BRTF road to Maku village is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs.3.81 crore.
