Chief minister N Biren has said that Imphal Airport will soon have international flight connection with Myanmar and Bangladesh under the Udaan scheme.
Addressing a press conference at his official residence here on Friday, Biren spoke about the development programmes taken up by his government in the last five years and projects under process.
Earlier, before the 2017 assembly election, BJP promised to bring peace, get rid of bandh and blockade, and to focus on development, and today the government has been able to fulfil its promises at least to some extent, he said.
The CM said that new routes connecting Imphal with Moreh, Tamenglong and Jiribam will be added in the existing helicopter service.
International flight service will begin by May 2022 with Myanmar and Bangladesh under Udaan scheme.
There is no longer development disparity between hills and valley due to the initiatives taken up by the government.
At the same time, relationship between people of the hills and valley has improved significantly.
Keeping this in view, the government will now stop using hill-valley while referring to the people of the state, Biren maintained.
He said that the government will take up necessary steps to make the ILP system effective and stronger after consulting with CSOs like JCILPS as well as legal experts.
Development works are being taken up in historical places in order to remind the younger generation about the age-old brotherhood among the people of different communities and to reduce the mistrust among them.
Maharaj Chandrakirti Park is all set for inauguration in Behiang in Churachandpur district.
Inter-state boundary rows have been resolved and police stations set up at Tungjoy and Dzuko valley.
Process is on to resolve international border with Myanmar through the external affairs ministry.
Border fencing works are continuing in non-disputed areas, he said.
Imphal-Jiribam and Imphal-Dimapur highways have been renovated.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Barak Bridge during his visit to the state on January 4.Construction of Irang Bridge is going on in fast pace with the completion target of June 2022 .
Once the bridge is completed, commuters along Imphal-Jiribam highway will get a new experience.
Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has released two instalments of fund for double laning the highway.
Hill cutting works are being taken up and it is unfortunate for some to use it as a propaganda tool by depicting it as bad condition of the highway.
Targets have been set for the railway line to reach Khongsang by March and Imphal by December 2022, Biren said.
War on drugs is an ongoing process and it has been effective with police destroying poppy plantations in hill areas and intercepting illegal drug trades.
From now on, land owners, who allow to use their land for poppy plantation, will be arrested as Centre has sent instructions in this regard.
Ministry of home affairs will form a joint committee of narcotics in this regard, he added.
With regard to Omicron variant of Covid-19, the CM said that there are certain handicap areas for the government to take up strict Covid related measures when it comes to political activities.
However, one should not always follow anything without thinking of the consequences.
The Election Commission of India will take its own decision after consulting with health experts.
As for BJP, the party will take up maximum measures to ensure wearing of masks in its political activities, he said.
Biren also said that PM Modi, during his Imphal visit, will inaugurate various projects such as Chingkhei Ching water supply scheme, Barak Bridge, Kyamgei Covid Hospital, 1300 mobile towers installed in remote areas, and lay foundation stones for different projects including national highway projects of HI km length, Rs 390 crore government residential quarter at New Checkon, Manipur Institute of Performing Arts Gurgaon, and 150 bedded JNIMS Cancer Hospital.
