MHRC & MSCW inspect Manipur Central jail

Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) and Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) visited Manipur Central Jail to look after the needs of the women inmates inside the jail.
MHRC acting chairperson Khaidem Mani and MSCW chairperson Dr K Sobita, Manipur State Commission for Women member Ranjita Golmei, Imphal Central Jail Sajiwa SP A Kunjakishore were present in the inspection drive among others.
Speaking to a team of media persons, Khaidem Mani conveyed that the inspection drive was conducted to hear the grievances of women jail inmates and to check any cases of violation of their basic human rights.
He informed that no problems were witnessed inside the jail during the drive.
Khaidem Mani conveyed that the absence of proper medical facilities in the said jail is due to the lack of medicines and fund and assured that the matter will be addressed to the authorities concerned for immediate remedial measures.
Stating on the insufficiency of prisoner transport vehicles, Mani conveyed that such disadvantage has hindered the transportation of inmates and assured to address the matter to the authorities as well.
Manipur State Commission for Women chairperson K Sobita said that the commission was visiting the jail for the third time today and added that various developments were witnessed inside the jail.
She lauded the Social Welfare Dept for imparting vocational training to the women inmates and also expressed happiness on setting up a women police wing inside the jail.
