Swollen river dismantles, washes away Chingdongpok, Chandrakhong Bridges in Heirok

Imphal, July 30 2015:
As a result of the sub-standard construction, two bridges - Chindongpok connecting Heirok Part II & III, and Chandrakhong Eetok Paring in Thoubal District had been washed away.
Two portions of the Chindongpok Bridge measuring about 25 ft each were dismantled by flood waters.
However, there was no report of any casualty.
This bridge which was constructed at the cost of Rs 1.6 crore was inaugurated on December 7, 2009 by the then Works Minister Kangujam Ranjit.
This bridge connects Heirok Part II and III and three other villages, Konaiton, Thamlai and Ingangrok.
Reports said that four plank bridges constructed across the river had also been washed away.

Following torrential rains in the past two days, the Thoubal and the Nambul Rivers are flowing above the warning level.
Many low lying areas in Thoubal have been inundated.
Many houses, paddy fields, fish farms are under water now.
The overflowing waters of the Wangjing river have flooded many areas and roads.
However, the water is drained away with the help of JCBs towards the paddy fields near Salungpham.
MLA Paonam Brojen came to suspervise the flood control measures.
Paddy fields, residential areas at Sangai Yumpham in Khangabok constituency are also under water following incessant rains.
Many areas at Kakching are also affected.
Reports said that the Nambul and the Thoubal Rivers are running above the warning level.
However, the water level of the Imphal river is receding.
Officials had started distributing flood control materials in Thoubal.
The Chakpi river is running above the danger level and the river water is flowing above the bridge.
Many areas have been submerged.
Several houses at Serou are affected.
Sugnu, Tangjeng and Nungu are affected by the overflowing waters at several areas.
