Imphal, January 30 2015 :
With a view to check HIV transmission in the State and to achieve the goal of zero infection, the Manipur State AIDS Control Society (MSACS) has geared up to take certain women specific programmes.
Moreover, drugs required for treatment of medical problems resulting from consumption of intoxicating drugs in overdose quantities would be made available at hospitals.
A meeting of the MSACS governing body was presided by Chief Minister O Ibobi on January 14 and the meeting decided to take up a number of new measures for prevention, detection and control of HIV infection.
These women specific programmes are particularly targeted at spouses of injecting drug users and MSMs so as to save young women from HIV infection, informed an official source.
Meanwhile, MSACS has initiated due measures to make Naloxone drugs available at hospitals.
Naloxone is a drug for countering medical problems caused by drug (opioid) overdose.
More than 300 cases of drug overdose were reported in the State last year.
The governing body's meeting approved free mandatory testing for people living with HIV/AIDS at Government health facilities.
The tests include Haemogram/CBC, urine for routine and microscopic examination, fasting blood sugar, blood urea, ALT (SGPT), VDRL, CD4 count, X-Ray chest PA view, serum creatinine and pregnancy test, if required.
The meeting further approved the State AISA Prevention and Control Policy 2015, informed the source.
