Senapati, November 29 2024:
The second round of the tripartite talk between the Government of India, the Government of Manipur and the United Naga Council (UNC) over the demand for the rollback of the creation of seven new districts in Manipur was held on Friday at Senapati district headquarters.
During the discussions, representatives of the government of Manipur cited certain constraints that prevented them from presenting a concrete proposal.
This prompted strong objections from the UNC, which insisted on the submission of a definitive proposal in the next round of talks.
Mention may be made that all parties agreed on a concrete solution to resolve the issue during the 10th tripartite talk, held on March 9, 2019 at Senapati.
The tripartite talk was conducted in a cordial atmosphere, with all participants reaffirming their commitment to sustain political engagement aimed at achieving a time-bound resolution while adhering to prior commitments.
It was mutually agreed to hold the next round of talks in the last week of January 2025 at Senapati district headquarters.
The meeting lasted for over four hours.
The talk was participated by AK Mishra, advisor (Northeast) from the Government of India; N Ashok Kumar, commissioner (Home), representing the Government of Manipur; and UNC representatives Ng Lorho (president), Vareiyo Shatsang (general secretary), Priscilla Thiumai (president NWU), and M Luikang Luckson (president ANSAM) .
