Churachandpur, October 29 2015:
Several bodies in Churachandpur on Thursday decided to call a 48-hour bandh in all tribal areas of Manipur from the midnight of November 3 till November 5 .
The decision was taken after a consultative meeting organised by Joint Action Committee (JAC) Churachandpur against the three Bills passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly with Church leaders, Kuki Innpi, Churachandpur, Hmar Innpui, Paite Tribe Council, Simte Tribe Council, Vaiphei Peoples' Council and leaders of Philanthropic Organisations.
The meeting contended that the three Bills were intended against the interests of the tribal communities and the same was clear from the introductory part of the MLR&LR (7th amendment) Bill which speaks about geographical areas of the valley vis--vis the hill areas.
The meeting held at YPA General Headquarters Hall, Hiangtam Lamka, Churachandpur said that there has been an attempt to encroach upon tribal lands under guise of Inner Line Permit.
It has been argued that the bills also failed to determine a clear cut procedure.
While proposing the road map, JAC said that a 48-hour bandh covering all tribal areas will be enforced from midnight of November 3 till 5, 2015 to coincide with the mass rally being organised by Manipur Tribals Forum Delhi.
JAC said that from November 6 onwards it would propose construction of a stretch of Th Guite Road between Sinzawl and Tuivai Bridge; construction of road connecting Tipaimukh Road and Mizoram and construction of Ganja Road connecting Silchar via Tamenglong and Jiribam and imposition of bandh on all highways connecting the Manipur Valley with the tribal areas from the midnight of November 15, 2015 against the Manipur Government's policies.
