Imphal, January 29 2015 :
Consequent to frequent attacks by village defence force from Nagaland, panic people in Soraphung village under Jessami sub-division of Ukhrul district have not been able to venture out of their village.
Taking serious note of the matter, the panic villagers have drawn the attention of the Government of Manipur for ensuring their protection and security.
According to information received from Soraphung, after the recent spate of abduction and beating up of people from Soraphung by personnel of village defence force from across the border, Soraphung people have not been able to go to tend their agricultural field or pick vegetables.
On the other hand, the poorly equipped police posted in Jessami have not been able to do anything to protect the people of Soraphung from constant harassment meted out to them by personnel of village defence force who sneak into Jessami area from Nagaland.
The village chief of Soraphung had also submitted numerous memorandums to the Chief Minister for ensuring a secured environment for the people living in the border village, but so far no tangible measures have been taken up.
Meanwhile, when contacted, MLA of Chingai A/C and Deputy Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly MK Preshow Shimray informed Hueiyen Lanpao that 30 VDF personnel under Manipur Police have been sent to Jessami to ensure protection of the people.
