Imphal, January 29 2013:
Reacting against the decision of Catholic Schools run by Christian Missionaries in the State to conduct admission test for students at the elementary level, All Manipur Students' Guardians Organisation (AMSGO), has demanded de-recognition of those Schools which defy the provisions of Right to Education Act by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BSEM) and the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (COHSEM) .
Talking to media persons at its Palace Compound office here today, N Tomba, Advisor of AMSGO, stated that even though one claims that the education system in Manipur has developed, in reality it has a long way to go before it could claim itself to be developed.
At such a juncture, the decision of the Catholic Schools in the State to conduct admission test for students seeking admission at the elementary level is unfortunate and unreasonable.
Instead of postponing the date for admission test, the authorities of the Catholic Schools should have altogether cancelled the test with immediate effect, he said.
Tomba contended that the claims made by the authorities of Catholic schools over their decision to conduct admission test for students baseless and incorrect.
"They are only trying to destroy the careers of the students in the State and lead astray the education system of the State.
And this would not be tolerated by the parents under any circumstances.
To say that they are here for the minority sections of the society while carrying on with formal education is ridiculous", Tomba said.
He also pointed out that if the Catholic Schools are for minorities, then they should be in the form of a Madrassa and teach separate language and syllabus.
"These schools are not even providing the 25% reservation to the minority students and still continue to get affiliated to the BSEM and COHSEM.
Their status should be de-recognised at the earliest possible", Tomba demanded.
He also charged the authorities of Catholic schools of being deeply corrupted and betraying the people of the State.
They have been collecting huge amount of money from the people of the State through selling of admission forms at the rate of Rs 100 per form.
