Irabot memorial event held at Sekmai Bazar

As a part of the 10-day long 61st Lamyanba Irabot memorial observance, a discussion session cum tree plantation programme was held at Sekmai Bazar today.
The discussion session organised by Nongchup Loumee Sinmee Chaokhat Thourang Lup, Imphal West was held on theme 'Irabot's contribution towards economic development of Manipur' .
As chief guest of the event, Sekmai AC MLA Kh Debendro pointed out that Irabot strived for transforming Manipur into a food-grain self sufficient entity.
stating that Irabot's aspiration would be a reality only when the people toil in the fields to free themselves from food-grain dependency on others, the MLA suggested that taking into account the ever increasing population in the state there is urgent need for scientific method of agriculture as well as adopting double or triple cropping methods.
As the days of food self-sufficiency in Manipur has become a history on account of increasing population, the farmers should not only work harder but also adopt scientific method to ensure bumper yield, he said.
Apart from food-grain self-sufficiency effective policies need to be implemented for enhancing the yield to export them and generate income to the State, expressed the MLA who also assured that the chief Minister would be apprised to chalk-up an agriculture policy suited to the State's soil texture and environment.
Exhorting the farmers to abandon the habit of leaving the fields barren after harvesting paddy, Debendro suggested that vegetables or other cash crops could be planted to earn extra income.
As a guest of honour, AMWJU president A Mobi described Lamyanba Irabot as a true leader of the masses while ISTV chief editor in his address stressed on the need to ensure continuous plantation activities.
