Dr Ibohalbi at Bangkok AIDS meet

Apart from attending as an invited speaker, MLA Dr I Ibohalbi, who is also the member of Manipur Legislators' Forum on HIV/AIDS, chaired a session of the ICAAP11 held at Bangkok, Thailand from November 18 to November 22 .
Organised by AFPPD (Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population & Development engaging parliamentarians, pursuing development), the event was sponsored and supported by UNAIDS.
In the first session of the meet on November 20, Dr Ibohalbi was among the four speakers who presented their papers, the other being President of Fiji (and former AFPPD Vice President) Ratu Eppeli Nailatikau, Bangladesh MP Tarana Halim and Deputy Speaker of Nagaland Levi Rengma.
Dr Ibohalbi spoke about the activities and achievements of Manipur Legislators' Forum on HIV/AIDS (MLFA) since its inception on June 30, 2007 and shared the existing scenario of HIV/AIDS in the Northeast India.
In the evening, Dr Ibohalbi chaired a session of the symposium held on the topic of "Panoramic-HCV (Hepatitis C Virus) and PWID (People with injecting drugs) in Asia: Strategies for treatment scale-up", organised by Indian Harm Reducation Network (IHRN) and supported by UNAIDS India.
The leading speakers during the symposium included Dr Swarup Sarkar, Dr Qussama Tawil (of UNIAIDS India), Dr Nick Walsh (Consultant of WHO) and Sutapa Deb of NDTV.
In his observance, Dr Ibohal spoke on the political commitment of North East India which has been focussing on the issues of co-infections.
