Senapati head count : Reverification on Sept 3

Despite the stiff opposition put up by the powerful and influential Naga People's Organisation, decks have been cleared to conduct a reverification of the Census records of three sub-divisions in Senapati district on September 3.The decision was taken today during a meeting held at the office chamber of Principal Secretary (Home) Dr J Suresh Babu and attended by a top ranking offical of the Registrar General of India SK Chakraborty and other officers including State Census Director Y Thamkishore Singh, IG (LO-III) Pacchau and DC of Senapati PK Jha today.
The reverification of the Census report will be conducted at the three sub-divisions of Mao-Maram, Paomata and Purul.
The Census report of the said three sub-divisions were excluded from the decadal Census report taken all over the country in 2001 and 2011 after abnormal growth in population was detected.
Contrary to the claims of the NPO, the Census report of the three sub-divisions were put in cold storage on the ground that the people did not extend the needed co-operation.
The decision to conduct the reverification drive at the three sub-divisions was' taken in the face of the growing dissent over the non-inclusion of the population in the Census data of the country as well as to clear the air of uncertainty over the population of the State.
The reverifica tion exercise will be taken up randomly in the 48 villages situated within the three sub-divisions.
After the meeting at the office of Dr J Suresh Babu, the RGI official SK Chakraborty met the Chief Minister and laid down the details of how the Census reverification drive will be taken up.
Later in the evening, Chakraborty also met Chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga and discussed all facets related to the reveri-fication drive scheduled for September 3 .
In connection with the reverification exercise, 6-7 officials from the Registrar General of India are set to arrive here on September 2 .
