Highway cut off at Maram

Imphal, July 27 2011:
Road links to Manipur remained cut off from the rest of the country for the second day on Wednesday following landslide at both the National Highways.
The landslide at Maram bazar, 80 km north from here disrupted the Imphal-Dimapur sector of National Highway 2(erstwhile NH 39) in Senapati district in northern Manipur followed by another subsequent landslide near Barak,100km west of here on the Imphal-Slchar sector of National Highway 37( erstwhile NH 53)in Tamenglong district which crippled vehicular movement.
Tourist buses also ceased to ply due to the landslides.
More then 300 goods laden trucks were stranded at Maram for the second day and the state works department is trying to clear the route by deploying a JCB.
The works department officials informed the locals that it will take two more days to rebuild the route .
"If the authority fails to do so within the stipulated time",a key functionary of Maram Students Union said.
"We'll be launching an agitation".
Similar road woes along NH 37 have also paralyzed traffic along the highway for the second day.
