IGAR (South) celebrates 70th Republic Day

Imphal, January 27 2019:
Units of IGAR (South) celebrated the 70th Republic Day with much fanfare in the entire State, witnessing massive attendance of locals for the events.
Keithelmanbi Battalion, including the Assam Rifles Public School, Keithelmanbi, celebrated the event by hoisting the National flag followed by a lecture on the importance of Republic Day.
A special screening of Republic Day Parade along with distribution of sweets and lunch was organised for the locals.
Civilians including various village authorities, club members, students and teachers of various schools participated in the celebrations.
Mantripukhri Battalion celebrated the event by hoisting the National flag followed by the singing of the National anthem.
As a part of the celebrations, a medical camp along with interaction with the residents of Old Age Home and a felicitation of Ex-Servicemen were also conducted.
The family and fellow villagers of late Rifleman TG Singh, Sena Medal, were elated on the gratitude expressed by the Battalion to commemorate his martyrdom by wreath laying at his native village in Akham Mamang Leikai, Imphal.
Thoubal Battalion celebrated the event by hoisting the National flag followed by singing of the National anthem by troops and locals of nearby villages and a speech on "Importance of Republic Day and National Unity".
Several sports events including volleyball matches were conducted between ex-servicemen and troops of the Battalion.
Tulihal Battalion celebrated the Republic Day with troops and local populace.
The National flag was hoisted at all companies followed by friendly volleyball matches between the troops and the locals.
Tengnoupal Battalion also celebrated the event with flag hoisting ceremonies at two villages.
The newly constructed football ground at Kwatha village was presented to the locals by Tengnoupal Battalion.
A friendly match of football was also played between the locals of Kwatha village and troops of Tengnoupal Battalion.
The grand celebration also witnessed distribution of five thousand saplings of pineapple to the villagers.
Chandel Battalion organised a friendly inter ward volleyball tournament at Pallel.
Five teams from different wards with a combined strength of 54 men from Pallel participated in the event.
A total of 164 civilian from the playing and supporting wards witnessed the event.
Moreh Battalion celebrated the day with village chiefs and ex-servicemen of Moreh.
The event was attended by 13 village chiefs/secretaries and 12 ex-servicemen.
Kakching Battalion of 28 Sector Assam Rifles organised Republic Day function at Pangaltabi Company for school children.
A total number of 80 students from four different schools namely Borni Memorial Public school, Hope Foundation school, Elite Children Foundation school and H Keinahal Memorial English School attended the Republic day celebration.
With Republic Day as a theme, painting, essay writing and singing competition were also conducted for the students.
Sehlon Batallion celebrated the day with villagers of Sehlon, Phaiphenkot and new Theijam.
The celebration started with hoisting of National flag and singing of National anthem, followed by a volleyball match between villagers and troops of Assam Rifles.
