Flood victims want timely assistance

Around 200 houses have been inundated with water in Leishangthem Khong Manung Makha Leikai, but they have not been given the assistance needed by the Government other than a relief camp that has been setup, said Leishangthem Apunba Lup's legal advisor Keisam Priyobarta.
The locality has been flooded due to rising water in the Ikop Pat and other water bodies.
Around 200 houses and 200 fish farms and agricultural fields have been inundated with water, he said.
When a relief camp has been set up for the families that have been affected, the Government has not yet provided them much assistance through the State Disaster Response Fund, he said.
Officials of the district administration and the Fisheries Department have visited the locality and took stock of the situation, but no assistance has been provided to farmers whose fish farms have been affected, he added.
Many of the farmers had availed loans through the PM Matsya Sampada Yojana.
They should be compensated at the earliest, he said.
The affected families should be given the aid in time, he added.
He lauded the local MLA for providing assistance including drinking water.
He urged the Govt and the authorities concerned to provide timely assistance and alleviate the suffering of the families affected by the flood.
Meanwhile, Zilla Parishad Hibjur Rahaman alias Angou has provided monetary assistance and materials including drinking water to people staying at Sangaiyumpham relief camp.
Thoubal district Deputy Commissioner Subhas Ahanthem, SDO Thoubal and SDC visited relief camps.
