The dead body of late Chungamliu Riamei was claimed by the JAC and the family members yesterday, following a condolence meeting held at RIMS mortuary.
A press release issued by the convenor of the JAC further informed that the mortal remains of the deceased has been taken away to her native village at Khoupum-Duithanjang in Noney district.
Condemning the death of Chungamliu Riamei and demanding justice, the JAC mentioned that on August 22, the JAC held an emergency meeting at Tarung and in the meeting it was resolved to claim the body of the deceased only when the State Government and the CM assured to do the needful and arrest Kongjengbam Jackson s/o K Joykumar, who is the husband of the deceased.
The JAC then condemned the police excesses and high handedness which resulted in the injury of 8 women and demanded immediate suspension of the police personnel involved and warned that if justice is not delivered by the authorities concerned, it will resume its agitation.
On the other hand, All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO), Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF), National Identity Protection Council (NIPCO) and United Peoples' Front (UPF) Manipur have also strongly condemned the death of Chungamliu Riamei and the police brutality against the protesters who were demanding justice in the case.
The associations also assured to offer every possible support in all the initiatives undertaken by the JAC to get justice for the deceased and the bereaved family.
