Imphal, July 25 2013:
Now in Manipur, details of your vehicle registration, laser and engine, and chassis numbers can be accessed by the law enforcing agencies at the click of the mouse.
A High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) fixing station, an online facility, was opened by Manipur Transport Director M Luikham at Manipur State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) complex here on Thursday.
Addressing the function, Luikham said with the help of the device fixed in HSRP the police can easily detect a stolen vehicle and its chassis and registration number can also be identified without any trouble.
Frequent crimes like hit and run case and lobbing of hand grenades by criminals, among others can also be curbed by this new gadget, the Transport Director said.
He said this gadget also aimed at bringing about uniformity in the registration plates of all vehicles (new and old) to complete a national data of motor vehicle in the country.
HSRP will make it easy for the police to track down stolen vehicles since they are aware that there is only one particular style of registration plates among the vehicle in the states, Luikham said.
In Manipur, it was launched on April 12, 2012 by Chief Secretary DS Poonia under the directives of Supreme Court and Union Transport and Highways to make it compulsory for every vehicle to fix with HSRP within two years of the launching period.
It was first launched in India on April 7, 2011 as a joint venture by German company Utsch AG and Shimnit Utsch India Pvt Ltd.
Developed countries in South East Asia like Japan, China, Korea, Vietnam and Indonesia are also actively using this high security registration plate, he said.
