Sharing his observation on the Agnipath scheme during distribution of certificates to newly elected PCC members, district delegates and BCC presidents at Congress Bhawan here on Saturday, K Meghachandra said that the scheme is being introduced by BJP government after finding no other means to provide jobs to youth.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised to provide jobs to two crore youths of the country every year when the BJP government under his leadership came to power and his government also assured of implementing one post, one rank and one pension scheme.
Contrary to what the pres ent BJP government promised during its initial phase, Agnipath scheme which has no pension provision and service period of only four years is being pushed and people opposing the scheme are launching protest and resulting in torching of no less that nine trains so far, he pointed out, while adding that the ongoing protest against Agnipath scheme is akin to Indians' revolt against the British regime during the colonial period.
When the state government is unable to declare recruitment results of two IRB battalions, chief minister N Biren is talking of providing jobs to Agniveers in the state, he ridiculed, and asked if the government of Manipur would translate this promise into action.
On the border fencing issue, the MPCC president asked as to why border dispute could not be settled when the union minister of external affairs hails from the state.
The present BJP government is unable to resolve boundary issue though the party raised the same issue repeatedly during the time of Congress government specifically to grab power, he said, adding that merely writing a letter to the Union ministry for halting fencing work is not satisfactory.
While asserting that fertilizer procurement is impossible without approval of the government, the MPCC president said that fertilizers meant for farmers of the state are being siphoned off to Myanmar and asked as to why proper investigation was not done when huge quantity of fertilizers was seized while being smuggled into Myanmar some days back.
The event was also attended by CWC member Gaikhangam, MPCC working president Manga Vaiphei and officer bearers.
The gathering also observed two minutes' silence in memory of Mukul Chandra Das, former president of Jiribam Block Congress Committee, who succumbed to an illness.
