Kidnapped minor rescued, four held

Imphal, June 25 2021:
Police have rescued a 13-year old girl who was kidnapped from Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak under Imphal police station on June 23 and arrested four persons including 3 women involved in the kidnapping.
Out of the arrested persons three are said to be juveniles while a woman suspected to be the ringleader has been identified as Sumitra Heisnam d/o Satyabrata Konthoujam Mamang Leikai.
All four have been remanded to police custody for five days to facilitate further investigation.
The other accused, including Sumitra's brother, will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board on Saturday for further action while the rescued girl will be handed over to the Child Welfare Committee.
The other two juvenile accused in the case are residents of Luker Mamang Leikai and Salam Mamang Leikai.
According to a police report, a complaint was filed to Imphal PS that two women riding a TVS Jupiter had abducted a 13-year old girl from Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak on June 23 around 3 pm .
Based on the report, Imphal PS registered an FIR and conducted investigation during which one of the minor accused was arrested from her residence in Luker Maning Leikai around 4am Friday.
After questioning her, police were able to rescue the minor from the residence of Sumitra Heisnam around 8.30 am .
Police arrested Sumitra's brother for hiding the girl and later, arrested the other woman for her alleged involvement in the crime.
The report further informed that the mobile phones of all four accused have been seized.
The minor was taken to Forensic Science, RIMS for medical check-up and was produced before Juvenile Justice Board with a prayer for protection.
