Imphal, June 25 2019:
The anti-drug campaign carried out by the Youth Task Force Team of Joint Students' Co-Ordination Committee (JSCC) seizing and disposing tobacco products sold in street vendors near Ibotonsana Higher Secondary School, Heritage Convent, Uripok and Takyel ITI is still continuing till date.
A press release issued by media co-ordinator, JSCC stated that the State Government will observe World Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking by giving flowery speech es.
However, the students' committee is losing hope on the Government that it will take up prompt actions in dealing with tobacco use among students, unless the student community starts an agitation.
Although necessary law has been enforced, tobacco items are still found selling within 100 yards from a school, it said and added that JSCC Youth task Force Team, with an objective to protect the future of the young minds and youths of Manipur, will continue to conduct the drive as a result of gross negligence of police and authority concerned in keeping this problem at bay, despite several notices and policies.
The future of the people of the State in which 54 out of every 100 person consume tobacco is very grim and that all stakeholders and the State Government should be concerned.
It also urged all street vendors/shops opening within 100 yards from any school not to sell any kind of tobacco items.
