Zeliangrong Student's Union Manipur (ZSUM) and Zeliangrong Students' Union, Tamenglong District (ZSUTD) have served a joint ultimatum to Governor of Manipur on 19 June demanding immediate completion of the Bailey bridge being constructed over Barak River in between Dikeuram and Katang village and pay attention to the shortage of specialist doctors and infrastructure in all health institutions of Tamenglong district.
"Seven days have passed; however, there is no response from the state government.
The ultimatum will ends on 4 July 2012, we have no other option but to go ahead with bandh and it would be followed by economic blockade", spokesman of ZSUM has stated.
In the ultimatum served to the Governor, it was pointed out that construction of the Bailey bridge started since 2006- 2007 under NEC funding.
However, the construction work has not completed till today.
The ultimatum also mentioned that out of 252 villages in Tamenglong district, there are only 38 health institutes including Tamenglong district Hospital and there is shortage of manpower and infrastructure in almost all the health institutes.
While calling upon the Governor for intervention within 15 days from 19 June 2012, the ultimatum had also threatened to stop construction works of trans- International railway line from Jiribam to Imphal indefinitely.
Earlier, ZSUM had announced to call 48 hours total bandh in Tamenglong district followed by indefinite economic blockade on NH- 37 over the same demand.
But the proposed agitations were withdrawn taking into consideration of the problems likely to be faced by the people.
